What is physical layer?

  • Bottom -most layer in OSI model.
  • It is a physical and electrical representation of the system.
  • It sends data bits from one device (s) to another.
  • Responsible for communication of the instructed raw data streams over a physical medium.
 

 What is features of physical layer?

  1. It maintains the data rate.
  2. Performs synchronization of bits.
  3. Help in direction of data transfer.
  4. It helps in physical topology.
  5. Provides an interface between devices.
 

 What is transmission medium of physical layer?

  • Simple Mode - One can transmit the data the other device can only receive the data.
  • Half Duplex Mode - Out of 2 devices, both devices can send and receive the data but only at a time not simultaneously.
  • Full Duplex Mode - Both devices can send and receives the data simultaneously.
